Starting An Internet Based Business - Can 500,000 "How To's" Be Wrong?
When we initially wrote this article, we hopped on the Internet and performed a search on the terms "How to start an online business?" and "How to start an Internet based business." The results were staggering; both searches returned over 200 million results each.
Take note that both searches began with the word "HOW." Wouldn't the "WHAT" come first? Think about it for a moment, don't you typically decide "WHAT" you want to do before determining "HOW" you're going to do it. For instance, would you figure out how to install flooring in your house before knowing what type of floor you want to install?
Putting the "WHAT" before the "HOW" is essential when starting an online business. Don't underestimate or overlook the importance of "WHAT." You can avoid many hours of frustration by simply determining "WHAT" you want to achieve before deciding "HOW" to achieve it.
As an example, before we began researching online opportunities, we knew precisely what we wanted to achieve. Aside from delivering education and value for others, the chosen opportunity would also allow us to replace our income and give us the freedom to work whenever and wherever we decided.
Knowing this allowed us to exclude a multitude of opportunities such as medical billing, envelope stuffing, and online surveys as those kinds of businesses would only supplement our income at best. MLM's fell under the same canopy of exclusions primarily due to profits being dispersed over to many levels.
We determined that by marketing a highly sought after and valuable product or service we could completely replace our income. For instance, to make a monthly income of $10,000.00, a significantly less amount of effort would be required to go to market with a $1000.00 product or service rather than a $20.00 product or service. In other words, selling 10 items at $1000.00 each would be easier than attempting to sell 500 $20.00 items.
Once you've identified the "WHAT" and are ready to begin researching the "HOW," here are a few tips to help you find a legitimate online business opportunity:
*If it appears to good to be true it probably is, remember to trust your gut.
*There's no such thing as "get rich quick" and any legitimate business will require some investment, so avoid those who advertise "get rich" and "no money required."
*Make sure the company, sponsor, or individual can be reached for questions.
*Education and training are going to be key components to your success. Ensure "YOUR" development needs will be continually met.
*Legitimate online businesses should be transparent and willing to share their business models, tools and resources thus helping you to duplicate their results, systems, solutions, etc.
*Research the products, services and compensation plans to ensure "YOUR" goals can be achieved...do your due diligence.
*Ask if the individual or company offers a trial period that includes a money back guarantee?
Regardless of what opportunity you choose, a small investment of time spent on research will save you from countless hours of pain later. Once you've made your choice, be sure to remain committed, motivated, and driven. Don't jump ship if your efforts don't manifest quickly, allow for the learning curve...remember persistence, perseverance, and patience are the keys to becoming a successful entrepreneur with a profitable online business.
