Using Highlighting Foil To Colour Hair
The first step is to wash your hair. Colours do not take well on hair that is not clean and is greasy and your colour will not show to it's full potential if it is not washed first. And remember lighter coloured hair will be more vibrant than darker coloured hair. So bear this in mind when choosing your colour.
It is important to perform what is called a strand test. You need to cut a small section of hair off and apply some dye to it. Then you need to leave it for the alloted colour development time. The reason why this is a good idea is so you can be sure it will not damage your hair in any way, and also to see what the final colour will look like.
Now to work on the look you want. This method is good for achieving many different looks. You can colour the whole head of hair of you want to. Or apply lowlights or highlights. The choice is yours. To colour the whole head you need to clip you hair up in sections and work on individual parts of the hair, starting with the bottom one first.
The next method is the one that will achieve either highlights or lowlights depending on what colour has been selected. How thick you want the streaks to be is up to you. You must remember that this involves only colouring certain areas of the hair, most the top section of the head as this is where it will show up the most.
This is where you will use the foil. Wearing gloves take a 2 inch square of it and wrap the strands in it. Lay the strand of hair in the foil and then paint the dye on it without getting and of it on other bits. Fold the foil with the hair and colour inside. Go onto the next section and repeat until finished.
When this is done wait for the appropriate amount of time before you remove the highlighting foil and wash the hair until the water runs clear. Condition it to stop it from drying out and dry and style it. And finally, the last thing to do is to enjoy your new hair colour!
