The world has become a global village due to the facilities provided by the internet, and it is the biggest source of information for all the people of the world. There is a commonly known fact that nothing in itself is bad, its use or abuse of it that makes it so. Similarly, there are people who use the internet to benefit from it, while on the other hand, there are also some people who use internet to cause harm to others by spreading computer viruses, worms and hacking into machines of other people to mess up with their data and important information.

Hence, it is very important that you are well-secured against such threats. You should be capable of protecting your system, from potential threats, so that you do not lose your precious data.

IT network security is not a very complex job. To ensure the safety of your data, you can take a series of steps; the first step being password protected data. Password protection is the most straightforward and fundamental step towards keeping your network system safe. However, there are rules that follow to that as well. When writing a password, make sure that it cannot be guessed easily. This means that using your name, date of birth etc, as your password is highly unsafe. It is also a good idea to regularly change your password, so that your network cannot be accessed by someone who may have guessed your latest password.

Using firewalls is another way to ensure safety of your data. If your router comes with a firewall, it is prudent to utilize it. This process would require you to make some changes and to test the system depending on the way you want it to function. Your input can make a lot of difference.

You should also make sure that your network is always properly configured and updated. Be aware of all the recent updates in operating systems. Many operating systems launch updated patches that are necessary to combat recently developed viruses. If you do not update and install these patches, chances are your system will be more vulnerable to threats.

Another way to make sure you are secured against any future threats is to invest in good antivirus software. Antivirus software that is regularly updated can help a long way in making sure your system does not get infected. Many times people neglect investing in antivirus software because either it is costly or they feel they can function without it. This is a wrong approach. Know that when your antivirus software is working ably your fears of possible viral threats will be lessened to a great degree.

The network security does not only include software security. It means protecting your hardware as well. There are some checks and balances, which ensure the security of your hardware. You must properly lock up the office where your system is placed. In order to ensure unauthorised access to your system, you can install physical locks as well.

All these checks are necessary for your peace of mind. Once you buy a machine that is not enough; you have to take proper care of your IT system to ensure it lasts long and works for you in the long run.
