Many men and women are looking at project manager careers because it is good job that pays well. You have to have what it takes to be an effective, in demand project manager though. If you do, you will always find work in this area of business.

Your objective is simple, you have to bring in the project in on time and within budget. If you are starting out, you will not begin as a project manager. You will first serve as the assistant to the project manager before you qualify to move up. The more committed you are to your job, the faster you will be promoted.

If you are dedicated to your work and continually do a great job, you might even be appointed chief operating officer. So this is a great field to get involved in but you certainly need many skills in order to work in this area of business.

Your first job with any project is to put together what you might call a helicopter view of the project. This is the overall view of what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, and what the final project will look like.

You then need to break the overall picture done into sections that can be measured. You then need to apply time frames to all the sections, the projects within the project. You will need to assign people to each project and let them know there time frame and budget.

You have to deal with different personalities so you will have to have people skills. You will have to deal with the architects and the electric contractors.

You will have to deal with the electronic contractors who have a different mindset than the art minded worker. You need to organize everyone like an orchestra conductor bringing different musicians and musical instruments together for a great sound.

If the project is large and complex, there will be a team of project managers working together. You will be assigned a particular part of the project depending on your strengths.

For instance if your background is in architecture you will be assigned to work with the architects and the contractors or if your background is electrical contracting, you will be assigned to work with the electrical contractors and oversee him and his team.

You will work under the development manager who oversees the whole project. You all will work together to bring in a quality product in time and within budget.
