If you are in the process of designing the rooms in your home to suit your personal style, there are a lot of options for accessorizing. You can enjoy the effects of a big design impact without spending a fortune. Accessories are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and purposes, and they often attract more attention than some of your larger furniture pieces. If you are in search of great ways to spruce up a space, or finish a space with big impact, the right accessories are the answer. Many accessories serve several purposes. Lamps make a big statement, and you can add Quoizel lighting or a new Chandelier to attract the eye upward and provide illumination in the room. Also, you should add decorative lamps, floor lamps, and mood lights for a great effect.

In addition to room lights, consider adding fabric accents. This is an area where even the most conservative designers can let loose. If you are too nervous to paint your walls a bright, bold color, you can add this color with fabric instead. Using brightly colored curtains adds a pop of color to the walls that will not overwhelm as much as painting four walls would. You can also tone it down and use only brightly colored pillows and a single throw that is red, orange, or bright green.

Area rugs are another great way to bring bright color into the room in a temporary, manageable method. Even if you have hardwood floors or neutral carpet, you can brighten up the flooring with colorful rugs. This also brings texture into the space.

Once your walls and floors are set, make determinations about your artwork. Even those with subdued pictures, paintings, and sculptures, can create a statement. Consider using images that are special to you and your family. If you would rather not use family photos, use snapshots of favorite locations. A photo of a sunset on the beach may seem traditional and generic to most people, but if it is the sunset on the beach where you spent your honeymoon, it becomes a beautiful piece of art that is also personal. You can photographs images currently in your life. A child's favorite toy makes great art in the design of their room. If photographed in the right manner, this photo can have a modern, artistic look.

Also consider having your family create artwork together. Alone, you may each assume you have no artistic talent. But if each member of the family gets together and adds something to a piece, it becomes a group effort. This can be abstract or literal, whatever your family and your personal style is most comfortable with. Accessories are the best way to personalize a space.
