Light has been a major necessity for Man even a long time beore the stones were rubbed to make fire. Light and sight move together. There is no use of sight as long as there is no light. Good lighting, therefore, plays a major part in your surroundings. Ranging from a rustic chandelier used in ancient times in fortresses, to modern day energy efficient bulbs, light becomes increasingly important. Not only does it give you with the capability of picturing the world around you, but also today's modern lighting through a contemporary chandelier and floor level lighting promises to be a superb way to give a chic look to your home.

When you are lighting your house, it is better to proceed room by room. The reason for this is that the sort of light used in one room may entirely be different from the other.

Living room:

Your living room is where you spend much of your time in. It is also the basic room that catches the concentration of the guests who come to visit you. In a living room, do not use a large central light that will generate big and dark shadows. Keeping a lamp or a task light just beside the area where you normally sit would be an impressive idea. If you want wall lights and pendants to be set up in in your living room, a place which has ceiling that is not too low would be perfect. As for floor lamps, you can put in some of them where usually there is a lower amount of light coming in.

Bedroom:

Your bedroom may have various purposes other than just providing you with a place to sleep. For the dressing area in your room, you can choose a down lighter that will give light only to the dressing place without disturbing the lighting of the rest of the room. Bedside lamps and reading lamps on the side tables are a custom. If your room is not spacious enough to reside the side tables, use small pendant shades on both sides of the bed. As for dressing table, you could use a pair of slender table lamps placed at both sides of the table.

Kitchen:

For glass cabinets in your kitchen, small halogen lights fitted under them will provide a beautiful appearance. For a kitchen, a central light is important so that light arrives at each corner of the kitchen. Pendants are not advisable to be used if you have a small kitchen. Under wall unit lighting and down lighters work best for kitchens as they will provide you a supply of light that is not hindered by any shadows, which would be present with ceiling lights otherwise.

Bathroom:

A bathroom area must never when it comes to lighting be ignored. Down lights are superb for washrooms because they will provide proper illumination to most areas of the bathroom. Do not use portable lights in a washroom, use ceiling mounted directional lights rather than them. When you choose shower lights, you have to largely emphasize on their connection. In all, bathroom lighting must be planned out appropriately so that there are minimal chances of electric shocks and hazards.
