It is very difficult when you suddenly find yourself unemployed. Most recently unemployed individuals quickly try to find a new job without thoroughly thinking out a plan for how to find this job. This can end up leading to some mistakes which may prevent them from finding work. The good news is with some planning, and some guidance, these mistakes can be avoided.

The first thing you need to do, if you are looking for a new job, is to come up with a plan, and stick to it. It is not uncommon for people who are recently unemployed to panic, and just start applying for jobs and postings resumes without giving any thought to what they are doing. This is a big mistake. You need to take your time to consider what you are qualified for, what training you have, what training you may want to obtain, what type of industry your are looking for a job in, what type of work you would want to do and what type of work you would be willing to do. You should then try to contact everyone in your professional or social networks who may be able to help you find a job, or provide references, to see if anyone can provide some assistance. Only then should you start looking at available job openings.

Do not limit your search to the internet. If you want to find a job quickly you need to explore every possible job opening available. While there are certainly many jobs that can be found online, either using a job finding site, or going directly to company's web sites, not every job is posted on the internet. If there are local companies where you think you would be qualified to work it may be worth while to contact them directly, talk to someone face to face, and provide hard copies of your resume. This human interaction may help when you are competing with many other people for a limited number of jobs.

Finally, another very common mistake is that people will stop searching if they think they have found the right job, and the company is showing some interest in them as well. Until you are offered the job, and you have accepted it, you should not stop searching for a new job. You never know if a company's interest in you will definitely lead to them hiring you, and you never know if a better opportunity may present itself to you while you are going through the application process. The more options you have available, the better the odds are that you will find the right job for you, so it makes no sense to eliminate these options yourself.

It doesn't matter what you do or how qualified you are, because any of these three mistakes will cause you to have a tough time landing a great job. Don't settle for one hopeful opportunity or have just one job interview. Go to as many as you can, apply wherever you can, and use every resource that you have available to you so that you can make the most of your experience every single time. In this tough economy, it's even more critical for you to get the best chances at job success, which is why you need to give it 110% and avoid these fatal mistakes at all costs.
