A hybrid car is known as a vehicle that gets its momentum from two different power sources. An example of hybrid car is moped, which has a small petrol engine, and pedals. The two sources of power come from the petrol engine, and the pedal power from the rider. Diesel-electric buses are also in some cities. Diesel-electric or nuclear-electric are submarines.

It has been a long time now since the hybrid technology is being used. As the oil prices are rising day by day, the automobile industry is turning towards hybrid technology in cars in order to cut down the expense of petrol. Most popular technology in the field of hybrid cars is petrol electric. In this system, a petrol engine, and an electric motor power car.

Automakers have chosen to use these two power sources in their hybrid vehicles in many different ways. The most commonly used way of combining the power of the gasoline engine, and electric motor is called parallel hybrids, and series hybrids. Petrol engine and an electric motor, both work independently to provide power to the transmission that turns the wheels of the car in a parallel hybrid.

Batteries charge the electric motor, and the gasoline engine is fed with fuel. In some of the models of hybrid series, the petrol engine charges the batteries and in turn, it drives the electric motor. Power to the motor is provided by the electric motor, so that it powers the transmission that propels the car. However, most commonly parallel technology is used in cars.

Hybrid cars have smaller and lighter engine than of conventional cars, thus the consumption of fuel is less. The performance of a car with electric motor is similar to a hybrid car with lighter and smaller engine. The electric motor provides the extra power when required.

A number of hybrid cars use only the electric motor for power when they are travelling below thirty miles an hour. When the accelerator is pressed for more power, the petrol engine starts up, and provides the power. When the car is coasting, braking, or stopped at a traffic light the electric motor acts, as a generator, and charges the batteries. Some hybrid cars use start/stop technology, which means that the petrol engine is switched off when the car is stationery.

Use of magnesium, and aluminium has helped to reduce the weight of the cars. The trend of buying hybrid cars is increasing day by day, as they consume less fuel, release less pollution, and there is no reduction in the performance, which is the beauty of this car.

In order to reduce the weight, aluminium, and magnesium is also used. As more and more people are buying hybrids, these cars are selling well. There is no reduction in performance of hybrid cars, and these consume less fuel. Hybrid technology is going to be adopted by almost all car manufacturers in some of their cars.
