These days, hybrid technology seems to be the driving force for all automotive majors. Be it Audi, Mercedes, Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen or Porsche. The companies are leaving no efforts to ensure that their hybrid models are ready in time to bite the electric car bait that is gathering strength.

One of the most interesting facets of the Geneva Motor Show has been the emergence of hybrids. And Porsche did not let its lovers feel bad by showcasing the 918 Spyder. One cursory glance at the 918 Spyder meant that the car merited a close discussion. It raised eyebrows and it captured the attention of news reporters and technical analysts as well.

What makes Porsche Spyder so special? Well the first reason is that the aesthetics of the car are absolutely world class, and it seems that the design has been inherited from the Carrera model. However, the design is a definite plus. Inspite of the sheer power offered by the car, it weighs 3285 lbs. The Porsche team has utilized aluminium and magnesium to bring the weight under control. The car comes with a 7-speed PDK gearbox.

Spyder can be driven in 4 modes. A pure electric mode allows the car to be driven on electric mode. There is a Hybrid mode, Sport hybrid mode and Race hybrid mode that compliment varying levels of power. The car also has a 'Range Manager' that can use a satellite system to guide the driver and help him find out the distance he can drive using the electric mode.
