Does your pc's hard disk space clogging up? Does it give out warnings that read "low disk space"? Are you out of spare memory on your hard drives and you cannot find that certain amount of disk space to save those important files for your work? If you do, well, it seems to be the time you should do a backup of your files right now. You will never know when will be the next time your pc or laptop will crash. It is always good to have at least 1 copy of your work when you are not sure when will your system be stable or not.

CDs are good devices to store your files but, ordinary CDs are not good enough. Once an ordinary CD is used, it cannot be used again for storing additional files. CD RWs are much better option compared to usual CDs. The CD RW has the ability to be rewritten with new data even there were data already burned in it. It can save you a lot of money when you only need to store temporary data, thus you won't need piles of CDs each time you attempt to backup your data.

The advantage of CD RWs over regular CDs is an individual can readily update the files inside a CD RW. Where it is basically impossible to change or update files inside a regular CD since a burned CD is locked forever from the moment it was burned. Most people need to keep an authentic and updated version of a document as backup so they won't need to repeat the work they have done on the files. The process of rewriting a CD RW is quite basic and simple. Many operating systems have included utility programs that guide a user how to rewrite a CD RW. There are also softwares available that specialize in CD RWs making the whole process a lot faster. The bottom line is that a used CD RW has to be erased to clear out any files burned into it. Once a CD RW is cleared out, an individual is now able to burn new files to the CD RW.

Data inside a CD RW can be accessed and read normally by users using the standard programs provided by the operating systems. However, these files are only read not altered. Unless a user utilizes a program that rewrites the whole CD RW, the backup files are changed. Only through erasing and burning new data can alter the contents of a CD RW. No viruses or malicious programs could change the files you have in the CD RW. So basically using CD RWs for backup files is a guaranteed security of your files from viruses and malwares.

Backing up files using other devices such as USB and external hard drives are much easier to input data and information on it but, these devices also are likely to have the files misplaced or corrupted. Since these devices have an easy access, the files inside the devices are likely to be explored not only by live users but also software programs and viruses. The files have full connectivity and control under the computer when accessed through a USB driver thus is more vulnerable to virus attack and data loss. There are also software exists that enables users to create an image of a CD RW to his/her hard drive. These images are called ISOs. These ISOs are identical copies of CD RWs or CD that contains exactly what the source CD RW has. ISOs are used as secondary back up or as future files so that a user can readily burn the ISO without the process of choosing the files to be burned. ISOs are also used to make mass copies of CD RWs to be shared, stored or whatever the user wants to do.
