Tape backups for the most part are not very dependable at all. Even the slightest bit of dust on the tape can break them so they need constant checking to make sure they are usable. Think about this, you've spent umpteen hours gathering essential information for your business enterprise only to find that it is lost due to a broken tape.

There are many more up-to-date ways of saving your invaluable data so don't always rely on your tape backup. It's not uncommon for your tape backups to record blank. If your primary method of saving data is a tape backup then it's crucial you make sure that the tape has in reality been recording. If you do not keep your equipment clean this can cause lots of storage problems. And if you have been doing consistent checkups then you might be in for a very nasty shock.

There are lots of alternatives to use for information backup, and if you are searching for a secure way to save data then I would advise you to stay away from tape backup. There are things that will be much more secure such as external hard drives, flash drives and on-line backup systems. Let me tell you from first hand experience that its the most awful feeling when you think that you are doing the right thing to back up your files and folders on your Mac only to find out at the worst time that it was not being done at all. This can happen on any computer, and the worst thing is that it not only cost you but it also costs you money. Even after keeping all the equipment clean you can never be sure that a tape backup will perform in the way that you were told it would.

Trust me when I tell you that it's in your best interest to buy backup software such as an external hard drive or a second hard drive. These systems are more dependable and a better solution than the dated tape backup.

A simple search on one of the major search engines will back up my theory that's it is not just to me who has had problems with tape backup.
