Tips For Building Your Own Greenhouse
Building a greenhouse isn't as complicated as it may sound. You will want to decide exactly what your needs are. You will also decide where you want your greenhouse. Most times you will not need as big of a structure as you might imagine.
The foundation is completely your choice. You may even decide to just let the ground itself be your only base. You can also use concrete of wood if you choose. Keep in mind though that wood may rot over time and need to be replaced. All foundations have pros and cons but soil is by far the cheapest and easiest way to go.
Wood and PVC pipe are your two primary options for the actual structure. PVC pipe is very light weight and easy to handle but may not stand up as well in strong winds. Wood may take a lot more work and planning on your part. You will also probably need several tools to build with wood. The choice is yours to make as the job can be done with either.
Clear rolls of thick plastic can be used for the outer covering. This can be bought in just about any home improvement store. You can also but clear siding if you prefer something a little more durable. The plastic is more likely to tear than the siding but it is much cheaper and easier to secure.
Once you have chosen the materials you will be using then you will begin construction. The easiest way to go is to build your greenhouse as you would a shed. This will be true until you get to the walls which will then use the alternate materials. Remember you need a door to get in and out of the structure.
Building your own greenhouse takes a little planning and work but you will be rewarded by keeping your plants healthy during the cold winter months. If you have ever wanted a greenhouse of your own then start planning today.
