Whether or Not to Buy a Treadmill

There are many different benefits to owning a treadmill. Let's start with the exercising itself to begin with. Running is one of the most efficient and effective ways to burn calories, allowing average adults to torch 200 calories in just 20 minutes. Even brisk walking can see you go through 120 calories in that same time. Running also provides many other benefits to your health and will enable you to feel better and look better for a long time to come.

Actually owning a treadmill also provides many distinct advantages over say just running around the block. One of the best benefits is that everything is in your control. There is no bad weather or low temperatures, there's no unsafe time to go for a run outside, there's no backup of people using machines at the gym or anything else. Plus your treadmill will have a nice cushioned deck which protects you joints and your feet from the pounding that running outside dishes out.

With a treadmill you also have precise control of your workout. You can instantly adjust your pace and then sustain that, and you'll always know how far you've gone, how long you've been running, what your speed is, how many calories you burnt and more. Different brands and models will be set up differently and have a different feel to them. But the good news is that when you own your own treadmill, as opposed to using ones at the gym, you can fine-tune the settings for your own needs.

Of course, if you are buying a treadmill for yourself you have to actually use it! These machines are an investment and they aren't cheap, and you need to put that to work for you immediately and over the long haul. Don't let it sit in your house collecting dust like so many diet programs, fad workout tools, fitness videos and so on.

If you go forward and decide to make the purchase of a treadmill you should spend some time and create a schedule that you can set for yourself where you can get in a regular workout. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you can't commit to exercising at least 3-4 times a week then you may want to reconsider the investment of having a treadmill in your home.

Many people think that workouts, particularly running on a treadmill, have to be boring. But this isn't the truth, because with a treadmill in your own home you can make your workout exciting. Put on some music, read a book or a magazine, watch some television or do anything else. Even with the ability to use many different preset programs, adjust your speed and inclination and more, you'll never get bored or have a stagnant workout and you'll always be able to get yourself into what you're doing.

Take your time and determine which machine and what type of program you could see yourself making a long term commitment to using. Be realistic about your expected results, stick with it and you will find your life will improve in many ways.
