Finding The Right Water Treatment Products
The most basic of water treatment products--and possibly the most commonplace--is the water filter for your sink. It just attaches to the head of your faucet and will filter your drinking water right there. This works well for many people, but it does not account for all of the water in your house.
A much better system is the total house filter. This is much like a water filter, only it attaches directly to the source of your water, so it enters your house already completely clean. This means that your clothes and dishes will be washed with clean water and get all the benefits. It means you can drink and shower in clean water without any unsightly single filters. It also means that when water in your toilet evaporates, it will not release any chemicals in to the air.
This may not be the right solution for everyone, though. Sometimes a simple chemical can break up others and neutralize your water. For this, you would need a chemical metering pump which distributes chemicals at a constant rate. These machines are hardy beasts that last forever and need very little upkeep.
A simple water softener is what many people need. Water with a lot of iron is a commonplace problem. A water softener will apply chemicals to your water that will break up the iron and allow your water to feel better and taste better. These are extremely popular and are common in many households.
The cheapest possible way to get clean drinking water is with a filter pitcher. You fill up the pitcher with water, just as you would with any other pitcher. But before the water enters the main part of the pitcher--the part with the spigot--it goes through a filtration process, allowing little bits of clean water to slowly trickle in. It does require a bit of time for the water to filter. The other down side is that the pitchers can not hold very much, since much of the pitcher's space is taken up by the filter.
You can combine some of the drinking water filters with a shower head filter. This is an okay option, but shower head filters are not known for working very well. The reason is this: a shower head filter will filter impure water at the source--when it has already been warmed up for your shower. Warmer water does not filter as purely, rendering this particular filter pointless.
Many people are also concerned with their water pressure. Though it has nothing to do with impurities, it can still be frustrating. Therefore, you can find pressure boosters which will enable you to set the pressure to your liking.
