Treating The Victim Of An Electric Shock
The fatal electric shocks can often produce a threat to a person caught in an electric shock. The heart patients may suffer a deadly heart attack due to the impact of the electric shock. Also, the brain may suffer a blow due to the effects of electric shocks. Moreover, the burns of the electric shock may sustain on the skin if not treated in a right manner.
The foremost thing to do is to escape out the person from the shock. If it is an electrical equipment or apparatus then unplug it immediately. If the gravity of the situation permits enough time then turn off the mains from the electrical breaker box or the electric fuse. Often, loss of time in such a situation can lead to a loss of life. Hence, look for the immediate solution to bail out the victim. Look for an object or block which is a poor conductor of electricity. A baseball bat or a wooden stick may do the job for you.
Do not make any physical contact with the person while bailing him or her out of the trouble. A physical contact with the person may end up fetching you in the same situation as well.
Lay the victim on a properly covered floor area. Hold the hand of the victim to check the pulse. Try to restore the normal breathing of the victim by rubbing his or her palm and feet. Apply the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques to re-establish the normal circulation of blood in the body of the victim. Meanwhile, call an ambulance by dialing the notified phone number.
It is very important to nullify the effects of an electric shock. Keep the legs of the person elevated until the ambulance arrives. Also, take proper measures to keep his or her body warm.
As far as the electrical burns are concerned, use sterile bandage to cover them up. The use of towels and cloth pieces should be prevented as an alternative to sterile bandages.
Proactive attitude would definitely save you from loss of property and lives.
