Stress Management Techniques That Are Effective

So you finally want to manage the stress that you feel? It's high time that you did, as allowing the problem to grow any further will surely create dents in your life and the relationships that you have, personally and professionally. Just a reminder of the many life changing symptoms that stress can bring; there's headaches, nausea, chronic fatigue, agitation, difficulty in concentration, loss of appetite, decreased immunity and heart problems.

So with all of the things that stress have in its weapons cache it seems to be only fair that you also have something in hand to fight back with, just to level the playing field. But if you are really interested in seeing for yourself all the wonderful things that stress can give, by all means, leave it alone. Kidding aside, stress is something that you really shouldn't ignore, with the multitudes of stress management technique available to you, both for expert as well as self help; you will definitely be able to locate useful ones. Here are some examples:

Deep Breathing: For quick relief results during stressful times, you can always count on deep breathing to help you out and if you know how to do abdominal or diaphragmatic breathing, so much the better. When under the influence of stress we tend to breathe a lot heavier and faster, giving us that sense of being light-headed which when mixed with stress can heighten anxiety and even induce panic. During stressful times taking deep regulated breaths (about 2 sec in/ 2 sec out) can bring things under control quickly.

Avoidance: Temporarily avoiding individuals or things that stress you out even for just a few minutes or hours will help bring things under your control. Of course this does not mean that you will be avoiding totally, in a sense, limiting your interaction, or taking break intervals in between will prevent stress from piling up and spilling on the next day.

Take a break: We all need a break. Hey, who doesn't? Timing yourself out or taking a break during stressful times can eliminate or minimize the stress that you feel. Try planning a few days off from work; spend your time alone or with family or friends; do something enjoyable or new - anything. As long as it will be able to take you off your usual grind it will be beneficial.

Aside from the three mentioned above, there are many stress management techniques that you will find useful either on the web, from your doctor, or from friends and family. It's up to you to sift out and decide for yourself which ones will prove useful for you and which ones won't.
