Traditions and customs are what make up a wedding ceremony. They bring up a kind of acknowledgment and purity to a wedding. Obviously there are a numerous traditions and customs related to marriages in the world, some are popular. These are some popular wedding traditions, those which are liked by everyone.

Marriage veil is undoubtedly the most popular convention and custom that has been doing the rounds since ages. It has for some time been a practice that the bride shouldn't show the face to the groom before the commencement of the function. This is where the wedding veil comes in handy. Moreover it is claimed to be a bad omen if the face of the bride is not covered. So the wedding veil apparently performs the function of warding off the evil and envious forces around.

Another practice is the prevalence of white color in nearly every aspect of marriage. The dress of bride is supposed to be white. Specifically since Victoria of the UK wore a white dress to her wedding ceremony, it became the accepted norm which stays to date. Moreover, it is believed that a lady who wears white on her wedding day selects the right man. Other colours like black, grey etc are not thought to be good for D day.

Rice has been a key component in marriage rites around the world. An important tradition is to throw rice at the new couple. Rice is the symbol of prosperity and fertility. It is assumed that if rice is thrown at the new couple, they may thrive in life and will have a great relationship with each other. It's a way to wish a good married life to the newly wed.

Another extraordinarily famous wedding custom is to station the bride on the left side of the groom. This ritual has been rigorously followed since ages. In the earlier times there was a belief that the envious suitors won't miss on any possibility of taking away the girl to be married. To avoid such a situation it was a ritual to place the bride on the left side of the groom. Also the bride's hand was tied to the left hand of the groom. This guaranteed that the right hand of the groom remained free. This was to ensure that the groom will effectively battle with any untoward happening as created by the envious suitors.

You must have heard, "You may now kiss the bride". The marriage kiss is another longstanding tradition. This tradition dates back to the Roman times to be precise. Roman civilization considered the kiss to be the final symbol that the bride and groom are now man and wife. The civilization did require that the kiss be witnessed by an individual of good repute and social standing.

Last but not the least ; an intensely common and famous marriage custom is to carry the bridal bouquets. It is a general perception that bridal bouquet is just to up the glam quotient of the bridal wear. However, this tradition has more to it. The conventional seriousness of the bridal bouquets is that it intends to forestall the bride from any unfavourable omens and influences. It is for this reason that many a times many herbs were placed in the bridal bouquet so as to ward away the negative forces around. In addition flowers were selected in accordance to the meaning they symbolized.

It's all thanks to these countless marriage customs and practices that the wedding makes for a pure union of 2 souls.
