There are a number of reasons why people may prefer home yeast infection remedies and natural treatments. It may be that they are often a cheaper alternative than doctors and prescription medications, or that this type of treatment tends to be gentler on the body and they are usually very good when used in a preventative capacity. However, can we be sure that they are really as effective as conventional medicines? In answer to that question the first thing we need to know is what exactly is a home remedy, and why are they considered to be beneficial.

So what exactly are home yeast infection remedies?

Home remedies are those remedies that are sourced from products that are not necessarily produced by pharmaceutical companies. They are generally natural treatments, some of which have been around for many, many years. These home remedies are often a good alternative to prescription medications, particularly in a preventative capacity. It is also possible in most instances to use the preventative medications and home remedies alongside prescription yeast treatments, boosting the results you get from other treatments.

Some of the most common natural home yeast infection remedies include the following:

Tea tree oil - This natural anti-fungal is useful in fighting off the Candida albicans fungus that is responsible for yeast infection. This all natural home remedy is useful as a preventative and is also believed to be a safe option for pregnant women.

Witches Hazel - When applied to the infected area diluted Witches Hazel is extremely effective at providing relief from the symptoms of yeast infections. Women have successfully used this home remedy for years, well before the introduction of the pharmaceuticals available today.

Yogurt - Another common home remedy, popular for infants and pregnant women, involves the use of yogurt by either eating it or applying it to the infected area. And because you can simply add it to your diet, it is great as a preventative element, both keeping you healthy and at the same time reducing the likelihood of re-infection.

Cider Vinegar - A yeast infection and an increase in alkalinity tend to go hand in hand, and this element can help to reduce that alkalinity. It is quite commonly known that the growth of the Candida albicans organism will increase in an alkaline environment, so cider vinegar will help to restore the pH balance. The way it works is by increasing the acidity when applied to the infected area, and in so doing rebalancing the pH in this area which in turn reduces the ability of the yeast to multiply and cause an infection.

So now that we've looked at some of the different types of home remedies available, let's examine how well they actually work. Before pharmaceuticals, natural remedies were all we had and our ancestors seemed to survive quite happily with these, so the common belief is that they are an effective alternative. In addition in today's society we have several groups of people such as pregnant women who do not want to introduce man-made chemicals into their bodies and for this reason natural home remedies can be an ideal alternative to conventional medications. Other groups who will benefit from home yeast infection remedies are young children who should avoid the harsher pharmaceutical treatments and those who suffer from recurring infections who will find the home remedies are very effective when used in a preventative manner.
